History of Odissi Music
A form of Indian classical genre originated in the Indian state of Orissa in 2nd century B.C. It was used to be called as Odramagadhi. It was performed in the reign of King Kharavel, the ruler of Kalinga Empire had indulged the music and dance. It has a great ancient history. Odissi was supposed to be performed in Puri Jagannath temple around 2nd to 4th century A.D. One of the foremost poet Jayadeva a creator of Geet Govind has a great contribution to Oddisi Music.

Odissi Music is created using four classes of music namely Dhruvapada, Chitrapada, Chitrakala, and Panchal. Dhruvapada is the primary line that is sung frequently. Chitrapada means the arrangement of words in a peculiar way. The description of art in music is called Chitrakal.
